I upgraded my blog to a new version of WordPress today without much trouble. Most of the changes are only visible to me, automatic plug-in update feature is worth the upgrade by itself. I found a little plug-in which can display all the plug-ins used on the blog, so I thought it would be neat to share mine and see what else I need to consider. I know that quite a few people here use WordPress, please share your finds.

Also notice my beautiful favicon in the URL bar of your browser.

I was tempted to do automatic plugin updates, but it requires an FTP server, which I simply don’t run (all my back-end file transfers happen via scp these days and I’m not keen on opening ports needlessly). I’m somewhat curious why a site that isn’t running ads would bother with search engine optimization and a bunch of Google spy-stuff, though. I know you Russians like to have other Russians looking over your shoulder all the time, but you’re in America now. You don’t need comrade Sergey combing through data on everybody that visits your site.

I am not hosting my site, I didn’t need any additional services to do automatic upgrades. To upgrade the engine itself I have a plug-in and it works pretty good. As far as SEO, I just wanted to know how it works, maybe when I get kicked out from my job I’ll have some useful knowledge to work at Best Buy.
