Every time I am asked this question I wonder why is milk singled out to be carried out bagless. I always get mine in the bag for several reasons: it may leak, my kitchen is upstairs and having milk in the bag helps me cut down on a number of times I have to run up and down the stairs, and, mostly, I don’t care about saving the environment in such way. If we can replace a coal-burning power plant with the nuclear facility - I am all for it. Recycling - that’s just feel-good bullshit.

I voted no, but not because of global warming. It’s just as easy for me to bring the milk in without a sack. Oh, and in about 10 months it won’t even be an issue, as my Jersey heifer should have her calf and be providing us with more milk that we can use.

Lately I have been buying my milk in glass bottles from Shatto Milk and they are no different in handling than any other bottle. They still ask.

I don’t buy more than a quart of a milk at a time so, yeah, put it in the fucking bag, will ya?
The question that always annoys me is “Did you find everything OK?”
Yeah. That’s why I’m at the checkout counter. If I hadn’t found everything OK, I’d still be looking for it and you wouldn’t have the pleasure of my company. Now cut the fucking chatter, ring it, bag it, and let me get the hell out of here.
I’m just pleasant and helpful like that.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I like that, XO. I find it’s easiest to put in a bag so I don’t get all slimy and wet. And I can reuse that bag for my kitty litter.

A certain phone co. insists on making its employees say “hello how can I provide you with excellent customer service?” I am always tempted to say “I don’t know you are the one who answered the phone”

At first I thought you were talking about Canadian dairy packaging oddities. I don’t have them put my obligatory two gallons of milk that finds its way into every grocery run into bags. The gallon jugs have handles that fit two-to-a-hand quite nicely, with fingers left over to hook other bags if needed. For me it has nothing to do with the environment, but I suppose I’ve thrown in with the hippies on this one.

we actually had milk packaged in the plastic bags, they always burst and in packages like this, licensed from Tetra-pak.

I recycle the plastic bags, so I said yes. It grosses me out when the milk jug “sweats” in the summertime. I always worry it’s leaking.

WTF? Why would they ask this? I haven’t bought regular milk in around a gazillion years (I’m non-dairy), and they don’t ask this question of those of us buying Silk. So I can’t answer your poll this week Meesha.
Sweaty milk jugs. Heh…

Faith, I will try to make my polls more inclusive. Supposedly ‘kefir’ is a dairy product many people who have problems with milk can handle. If you miss your milk products, google it, my Mom has the starter. My Mom drinks a cup of this stuff every day.

From a former grocery store employee’s perspective… the second you don’t ask, and put it in a bag, will be the customer that complains. You can’t bag anything else with milk, and some people don’t like having a bag for just one item. Same with asking if they found everything ok… trust me, i hate to ask as much as you hate to answer. Most stores dont’ give us tours or let us know where every single item is stocked, so if you can’t find something chances are I can’t either and will have to shut down my line to help you find it, which will result in five to six angry customers behind you. But if I don’ ask, just our luck you will be a mystery shopper and we’ll get written up for not asking.
Personally I don’t care how the milk is bagged, either way is fine with me. Just have some compassion for your overworked underpaid grocery store employee ok?

Suzanne, I can only speak for myself, but I always respect underpaid employees wherever I come into contact with them- store, restaurant, bank, etc. Long time ago I delivered pizza and since then always avoid customer-facing jobs.Even in this case I realize that they have been told to ask this by some management a-hole so my comments are not in any way addressed at the asker of this and other stupid questions. Thanks for your reply.
