Strawberries used to be a sign of spring or early summer where I come from. Nowadays they are not a sign of anything since they are available year round. They hardly taste anything like strawberries of my childhood, but at least they are still red. So far the scientists weren’t able to change that but they are still working on it.
There are a few strawberry patches around the metro area, keep an eye for fresh strawberries around May.
And here is the picture of local strawberries picked few years ago in Miami County, KS.

That looks fantastic. I love strawberries. Now I want something with strawberries and Cool Whip.

We’ve been buying strawberries at Price Chopper and cutting them up on our cereal. Cliff said yesterday, “Do you notice strawberries don’t have any taste compared to the way they used to be?”
I explained to him that they’ve worked on getting a product that will ship without getting mushy, and in the process have taken most of the flavor out.

Donna, you need to plant a patch,my understanding is that once planted they grow like weeds.

Not a huge fan of Strawberries myself, but if you buy local stuff while it’s in-season you’ll end up a lot happier with the flavor. Same goes for tomatoes.

I love strawberries. This year, I will try to find a place to go pick some.
I tried to plant some strawberries, but the rabbits and squirrels got to them. Bastards.

there must be a way to distract the rabbits, the strawberry patch we went to few years ago was in the middle of the field but it wasn’t destroyed by rodents. you can probably entice rabbits to have sex that should keep them occupied.

Up here in Strawberry Hill (aka downtown KCK), wild strawberries are rampant… and they may be small but they sure do taste better than anything in the stores. Bring on spring!

Strawberry Runner, are these small strawberries the size of a pea, they are great. I’d like to know when they show up.
