Raytown always seemed like a “shining city upon a hill” to me, a hotbed of beautiful women and an epicenter of delicious Mexican food, gleaming just outside of my reach so far and yet so close. Today I finally reached Raytown maybe a second or third time in my almost 16 years here and I was right. Mexican food was tasty and the women were pretty, but another little known fact about Raytown which made my trip even more worthwhile is that it’s only two or three traffic jams away from the glorious Cargo Largo.
For years I’ve heard stories about Cargo Largo, sometimes described as “where Jesus would shop” and “the only reason for the City of Independence to exist”. For years I was planning to go there and instead was taking an easy route to a local Big Lots. Well, today I finally made it. What a place! If there is a store where I could spend a couple of hours without my head exploding, that is it. All kinds of necessary household items, DVD’s, electronics, garden utensils and tools, kitchenwares and clothing were on sale. I walked in prepared with my camera in hand.
Nice shoes on CD cover
You stick these where?
Son of He-Biatchi
This cup holds almost 7 lbs of liquid, if it belonged to the D it would be the D-Cup.
Shove that in your player!
I thought Super Bang was the subject of this blog?
She may also need these.
Couple of t-shirts to keep local children dressed appropriately.
If this is not a sign I don’t know what is. He was here before me.
Well, I bought a nunchuck for the WII for $11 (elsewhere $20) because they had a 25% off sale on everything that had a letter “J” anywhere on the package and it was $15 to start with. I also bought some vacuum bags that don’t fit my vacuum. Surprisingly, vacuum bag package did not have a “J” on it. I would have some unusable bags for seventy five cents, I ended up paying a dollar but they still don’t fit.
Cargo Largo:”How do I love thee? Let me count the ways…”
by Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806-1861)
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday’s
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, — I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! — and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

Cargo Largo hmmm…. Bought the slate tiles for our kitchen there. Kanga & buddy will be installing this summer!
Ahahahahaha! I’m EVERYWHERE!
Did the nunchuck work? =)
That place has had everything at one time or another. You just never know what they will have on a given day.
Just remember tho, when you check out, that their original computer network was designed and installed for free by DeVry students as their Senior Project.
Oh, and some of their DVDs don’t say it on the cover but are in Spanish!
nunchuck was brand new and it works fine
I’ve got two of the 100 ounce cups. It last me the whole shift at work. Its one of the best things I’ve purchased.
I still don’t get it- why not fill it fresh every once in a while. I probably drink close to a gallon of water a day,but my bottle is only a quart.
Posts like this render Happy In Bag irrelevant, Meesha.
You manage to convey what you want in three sentences and 1 picture, I wast a whole page.
Ooh, Big Lots is pretty good, but Cargo Largo is the mecca of close-out stores.
