Poll of the Week: Coffee Black or Fancy?

May 11th, 2008 · 9 Comments

Some time ago I wrote about having a problem maintaining my coffee up to my taste when it’s constantly being refilled. One of the commenters, Burrowowl, noticed that adding other items to coffee amounts to pollution. I am not a coffee connoisseur, I haven’t had a cup of coffee for 10 years before I started drinking it again and when I have a cup it generally imitates a sweet milky coffee I used to like when I was a kid. Sometimes there wasn’t any real coffee in it, just some kind of substitute, sugar and milk. That’s the way I like mine. It doesn’t help me stay awake so I drink it mostly for the taste and when I get tired of tea. Where I come from, real strong black coffee was consumed in tiny cups, not in gallon-sized mugs as it’s done here. So here is a new poll to test your preferences.

Brother refers to doctored up coffee as “having a vagina”. (Personally, I just think he like’s saying vagina, but that is neither here nor there…) The only exception to this rule is McDonalds, only because it is McDonalds and not Starbucks.

My tastes have become varied with the coffee I drink. Sometimes, I can drink it black with splenda, other times, the creamer is necessary. Flavors added for excitement. However, I don’t like overly sweet.

Considering my church’s standing on coffee consumption, I’m going to hell regardless of how I drink it.

You left out an entire cross section of people who are bi-coffee drinkers. Cover a coffee bean in chocolate, starbucks , or black john wayne style range mud, freeze it, serve it hot, whatever , Im all about the coffee.

and a no homo on the bi-coffee phrase.

“no homo” duly noted. I do have Starbucks listed in the option 2. Since I only visited Starbucks less than 5 times (then I ran out of bucks) I am not expert on their offerings so I lumped them into one category.

I like my coffee like I like my women. Straight. Hot. Strong. Bitter… In a cup… Never mind, I think my analogy is falling apart on me here.

I love the way coffee smells. I love coffee, in fact…my fave is a nice espresso with a cube of sugar in it.

Unfortunately, coffee doesn’t like me. So I avoid it, usually only having it with dessert at a wedding or party at someone’s house.

I prefer cold drinks in the a.m. And since I kicked my diet soda habit to the curb, I’ve been living on iced tea for my caffeine requirements lately.

I too love the smell of coffee, but I hate the taste. I figured out in Sarajevo that if I add a teaspoon of coffee to chocolate milk, I can drink it. Otherwise, no way. Give me my hot tea. Earl Grey with milk and sugar. Tasty vittles.

I agree about the coffee smell. I like it too. Taste-not so much, so I voted for add-ons.

Coffee is one of those things that makes goofy with delight when it’s good. Black please. My spoon should stand up in it too.
