If Pitch and Dos Mundos Had a Baby…

P1000173 So TKC is pouting about not being included in my list of bloggers who I’d like to see in the Star. Since the Star is yet to consult with me on their editorial and personnel decisions I imagine my blog is not at the top of their list of outlets with any influence. I also stipulated that I only compiled a sampler of the local talent. Included on my list are people who may benefit from additional exposure and whose additional exposure may benefit the rest of the community. TKC doesn’t suffer from being underexposed, his blog gets plenty of hits (although a lot less than I imagined if I am to believe this site) and comments, he had been interviewed on the radio, quoted in the press and his influence is felt in many local and regional blogs. Can he write a great opinion article? No doubt. Will the Star consider his candidacy for the panel after he called them and their columnists every name in the book (and some names that are not in any books)? I highly doubt it. But the bigger question is: does he even need to apply? Besides a one-time free lunch and an occasional $75, what does he stand to gain? He has a highly visible, informative, controversial and prolific blog. More people read it than will admit to it. His only failure is inability to cash in on it and publishing an occasional column in the Star wouldn’t really propel him to the land of the “champagne wishes and caviar dreams”.
I further defer to someone who actually knows what he is talking about:

As the “mainstream media’s” overall influence and integrity continues to decline in the Internet age, blogs like Tony’s Kansas City are taking on an air of journalistic credibility as legitimate news outlets give him exposureWith legitimate media outlets and reporters providing him exposure for his personal views there is no limit to the influence he can achieve in the future.
All that said, it’s the photo of gigantic ugly feet that cost TKC my all-important endorsement.

  • Thanks for the mention before :) I would like to think my oppinion matters… lol… yea right.

I think since Tony included a (no homo) when talking about you, that was an open invitation for you two to play tag (yes homo).

And start making plans for Monday, I am sure your couch has enough quarters by now.

  • I’ve been telling Tony for a long time now that he should monetize his blog. There’s no reason not to and he could pull quite a bit of money from Adwords and Text Link Ads…enough to pay for…whatever he buys.

  • Doc

From what I remember of Tony’s writing he was very passive-aggressive: “well, take this from me, it’s the honest truth, but on the QT, hush-hush” and in the next sentence “I’m just a joke blog, why anyone would read me, much less take me seriously?” followed by “Come and admire me and my blog.”

Then there was his execrable spelling. Yes, we all miss stuff, but misspellings seemed to be the feature of whatever style guide he used.

I am not quite sure that’s what they are looking for at MidWest Voices.

p.s. – did you read Chris Packham’s piece the other day? Where he said he was rejected by The Star?

    Let’s have a poll:

    Who thinks he actually applied?
Who thinks he’s yanking The Star’s chain?
    Who thinks he’s high?
Who thinks he is/are/was/does/do/will do all the above?

    ; ‘ )

  • I’m impressed by TKC’s stats, and I, too, have begged him to get an Amazon link on there. So many of the pictures he uses, if he’d turn them into Ice Poster links he could make some serious bank (and not have to worry about getting sued for using the pictures, which is my guess as to why he doesn’t monetize).

I thought you didn’t put him on your list because it was considered a “given”

    :P

  • Damn, and this is probably the only endorsement that mattered to me (and that’s not a joke) . . . Next year.

And that title . . . Damn. Good stuff.

(lame for posting on Sat. night – of me, of course)

  • Tony, as a consolation prize this title is yours to use. I can just see it on a banner somewhere.
