My Top Ten

From your 215 subscriptions, over the last 30 days you read 5,251 items, starred 5 items, shared 7 items, and emailed 6 items.

There are 3 kinds of people: people who want to meet me, people who already met me and people who wish they’d never met me. Most people eventually progress through all three categories. Through this blog I have met many people I would never meet otherwise and that’s probably the main benefit of me doing this. Some of these people are included in my Top 10 local bloggers which I am submitting to the Present Magazine. Obviously I read more than 10 and it’s hard to pick the ones I like the most. My only requirements are: mostly original content, semi-frequent posting and hot looks being interesting.
Based on these criteria I present my list in no specific order:

He lived his stories, you can’t beat that.

Non-snooty reviews of the eateries I could actually afford.

I only added him in to fulfill my affirmative action quotas. Actually TKC performs a useful service – like an oyster he sifts through tons of crap, finds a pearl (not always, but who cares), attaches it to a beautiful woman and presents it to the world.

After becoming a renowned book author Cara still finds time to drop us a line.

If you knew what your nurse is thinking, you’d stay in your bed quietly crapping your hospital pants and not even thinking about pushing that button. Smart and funny.

I despise mommy-blogs, but this one is light on “hey look at my kid” and is filled with everything form historic to paranormal.

He drinks, blogs and then drinks some more

Even if you are just singing in a shower, he probably already reviewed it, no musical note uttered in this city escapes him.

Very detailed but still down-to Earth restaurant reviews and other stuff I like to read, and his Ukrainian wife asked me to include him…(not!)

It seems like they used to post a lot more. Now for whatever reason (kids, new cameras, twitter,addiction to masturbation) they don’t post that often anymore but when they do it’s always a riveting read.

I also like to mention:
Donna Just Me whose blog is like a living breathing farmer’s almanac  and who ALWAYS finds time to comment;
MadnessMatrix-where you will find hands-down the best local photos and a person who managed to find an angle to make me look only half as ugly as usual;
Will Not be Televised – I would like it better if they allowed comments and I hear they will after the new president issues a special directive;
Hot Blog On A Stick – death-defying food stunts;
Kansas Sity Sinic – may be in top ten next year, who knows;
Gone Mild – there is no cure for what Dan has, but very enjoyable read;
Logtar – now with hearing super powers;
I, Shane – I, Like (now Shane Life);
PlazaJen – I am just hoping that she will knit me something if I mention her here;
Fat City – select few who are actually getting paid for blogging (I hear high 6 figures plus all you can eat). If you see Owen at a restaurant, come up to him and he will pay for your lunch. He doesn’t mind at all.

  • Aww, now my feeling is hurt.

  • Maybe top 10?! Sounds like a challenge.

    Thanks for the shout out!

  • Thanks for the mention. I wouldn’t put myself on the list, but I’d put you on it.

  • I’d put any of your “also mentions” above TKC. 96% of his posts for the past year have been Funky this/Funky that (with pictures of feet or lurch from the adams family), 2% links to local news site stories or local blogger posts, and 2% anti JoCo posts, and of course 99% of his pics have nothing to do with the story… just boobs and ass (not that there’s anything wrong with those).

    Can you tell… TKC bores the fuck out of me. At least for the past 12 months.

  • I’d be very surprised to see anybody’s list without you and Midtown Miscreant on it. I’ve just discovered a couple of blogs that would have been on my top ten, had I known about them: Moxie Mama is one of those. Alas, I was in a big toot to send in my list, afraid I’d procrastinate too long and miss the opportunity.

    And thanks, by the way, for the mention. I only comment when something is of interest to me, so obviously your blog has lots of interesting content!

  • Awww… Thanks, Meesha (and Donna)! Your top ten could almost be my top 10. You, of course are in mine. I’ll have to post my list, if I get a chance…

  • I travel for JOOLS

    Midtown Miscreant has real talent. Every day is like reading a chapter out of the unique book of his life. My other regular reads are Hip Suburban White Guy, Gone Mild and of course you, all good writers. I’ve become a recent fan of General Blather. Best wit on the local blog scene. TKC thinks he has talent; I agree with Old Fart’s assessment.

  • midtown miscreant

    Thanks for the kind words. Being one of those who fall in the category of having met you, I know you are in fact a 64 year old black lady from Grand Rapids, but your secret is safe with me.

  • I like to use a camera to record myself while using Twitter as a masturbatory tool after putting the kid to bed.

  • Hey, at least you’re honest. Wool thong?

  • I think I read that you said one of your criteria was “ORIGINAL WRITING”. Its because you said that, that my feelings arent hurt because some of the others you cited don’t post stuff as funny or interesting as I do.

    But yes, they use their own crayons.

    Me, I post stuff of my own rants but also I post a lot of stuff passed to me by my longtime ‘email group of friends’.

    I’m not big on only giving credit for poeple for ORIGINALITY. I’m big on giving people credit for telling me THINGS I DIDN”T KNOW AND AM GLAD THEY TOLD ME!

    That’s why I read blogs. Not to learn all the ghetto killings in KCMO or KCK. Or all the outrageous things children do. Soemtimes I like funny cat pictures. Naughty jokes. Poltitical reality that affects me.

    And yes, more often than not things affect me on the NATIONAL scene a lot more than in KANSAS CITY, given that I don’t live in the city limits!

    I’m vastly more interested in national INTEREST rates than in people INTERESTED in What Gloria Squitero is doing, or even what the KC SYMPHONY director is doing!

    My view is that it’s all good. I share the view that Tony is wasting my time about Funk & Wife, except when he posts women pictures who haven’t been augmented by plastic surgeons.

    I’ll keep his visitor count up just for THAT, if not for his boring crap from the 29th floor.

    As to the rest of yas… well I love that my software tells me your latest topics so I can either read them or not.

    BTW, I do love things Russian. My daughter’s inlaws just left Moscow this week, now safely out of the Mafia owned oil bid’ness. ANd I love my Russian submarine wind-up clock, my warm Russian hat with its Soviet army insignia on it, and the little dolls inside other dolls inside other dolls, inside other dolls. And all the photos I have of Russian bombers, submarines and ICBMS. And my historic Janes Ships and Planes and other stuff related to all things Moscva.

    But yes, my feelings are hurt that you didn’t cite me as one of your favorite places, despite my pix of things Soviet on my website.

    Oh well.

    It’s all good, Comrade! Especially that line someone said after Bush said he felt Putin’s soul…and an American comedian said what he sensed when he looked into Putin’s eyes was three letters… K G and B. Hahahahhahhaha Roger THAT!

  • I am not sure if this is going to make you feel better but I never said that I read every local blog and yours it one of the blogs I didn’t even know about. Until today I didn’t even know you read mine. How about I’ll subscribe to yours and we’ll see if you can be on the list next year if I am still around.
    I think McCain said the line you were referring to about Putin although he is probably a better comedian than a presidential candidate.
    Lastly, I do like original content. I get hits from robot-blogs all the time, they just link my stuff based on keywords. Mine is not 100% original either but most of it is. Obviously I use other people’s photos and videos as I see fit. Anyway, thanks for the comment and don’t forget to wind your clock regularly.

  • Owen

    Only six figures? Did I take a pay cut? All right fine. I’m buying brunch next time we see each other. (Top ten and I’ll spring for lunch.)

  • Wow Meesha, I’m flattered to be included, especially considering the high quality content the others on your list produce…

  • Solid list man, I can’t even argue with Tony’s inclusion. All of these blogs (at least the ones I recognize) provide both information AND entertainment.

    I am looking forward to seeing the results.

  • I agree with your top ten as well, except for the Tony inclusion. I took him off my blogroll a long time ago, and I haven’t missed him much.

    I do want to say that your comment about MM (“He lived his stories, you can’t beat that.”) kind of doesnt make sense to me, though. I live my stories, too. You’ve lived yours. While I agree that I probably wouldn’t WANT to live his stories (sorry MM…) and find them riveting much of the time, he’s doing the same thing you and I and XO and Emaw, etc, etc…are all doing.

    But I totally agree with him being at the top of anyone’s local top 10 list. So I’ll give ya that one. :P

  • That’s the exactly the point 1: No one wants to go were he’s been, but everyone wants to know. 2. He makes it interesting. 3. You are right, we all live what we write but there is a difference between going to WalMart and going to North Pole,most of our daily lives are less exciting than one prison shower. However, once in a while we all have something unbelievable and amazing happen to us, you know when you see your stuff emailed and linked elsewhere.
