Who knew that Canada would suddenly start acting like it has above-average sized balls. I certainly didn’t.
Say what you want -- just don’t expect taxpayers to pay:
It’s never smart to call a federal cabinet minister a “whore” -- not when you depend on him for money. But Khaled Mouammar, president of the Canadian Arab Federation, is a fearless man. At a recent anti-Israel rally, he referred to Immigration Minister Jason Kenney as a “professional whore” for supporting Israel.
Last week, Mr. Kenney bit back. He asked his bureaucrats to yank the CAF’s $447,000 grant. “They can say what they want within the parameters of our laws, but they shouldn’t expect a priori funding.”
Free speech can be ugly. That’s democracy. The question is not whether the CAF should be able to say whatever it wants. The question is whether the rest of us should be paying for it.
I never understood why some groups openly hostile to their county are still getting the money from the government. Apparently, people in Canada asked themselves the same question.
Like other groups that purport to speak for immigrants and minorities, the CAF is highly skilled at grantsmanship. The grant proposals from these groups are full of jargon such as “racialized,” “ethnocultural youth” and “marginalized neighborhoods.” Most would not exist at all without the government. The people who run them go to one another’s conferences, serve on one another’s boards, and approve one another’s grants. It isn’t clear how well they reflect the views of the groups they purport to represent, or how effective they are at helping immigrants. But they are quite effective at using the problems of immigrants to create jobs for themselves.
I previously wrote about the whole populations feeding off the diversity business. It’s unrealistic to expect that anyone would follow the Canadian example in this country, where even asking someone to pull up their pants is considered racist.
I know this video is exaggerated and a person can’t walk with a shotgun in his pants. But it still makes a point: big crowds of people who are drunk may benefit from the lack of places to hide a weapon.
Canada has shown examples of not rolling over before. In 2007 a town of Herouxville adopted their “code of life” letting know potential newcomers what to expect if they decide to move into their community. Apparently Herouxville wasn’t a giant immigrant magnet before this happened but they just wanted to make a point. Their idea was picked up in Quebec where new immigrants must sign a paper pledging Quebec values before they are allowed to resettle.
It’s still a mystery to me why people who were so eager to leave their own countries immediately insist on rebuilding their old way of life in the new place. What was the justification for the immigration (besides the free stuff)? If you have to come to school wearing a dagger or cut your kid with a razor, why didn’t you stay where it was considered normal?
I am pretty sure nothing like this could happen in the USA where people are bending over backwards to be “accepting” of other people’s customs no matter how cruel, painful and plain stupid these customs may be. Canada is not alone in trying to stop degenerate values from being crammed down people’s throats: Britain banned fred phelps and co. from entering the country. Freedom of speech and religion cannot justify everything. Acceptance doesn’t equal gullibility.

You said it so well!
Total agreement.
You know, if everybody had adopted policies like requiring newcomers to adopt certain social values, we probably wouldn’t have quite so many Jews in this country. Just saying.
As for the dagger thing, did the kid actually do anything with it? No blood, no foul, I say.
I disagree, I think the point is not robbing someone of their culture (if they wish to keep it), it’s preventing newcomers from forcing their culture on other people. If you want to use Jews as an example, it would be if Jews went to court and forced everybody to take Saturdays off. There are places where they do that but they pretty much have an enclave where they do what they want, same with Amish, etc. They don’t encourage anyone to move there and they don’t force their crap on other people.
